Mpiani jailed 15 years for manslaughter

The convict broke into the home of the deceased and stabbed her several times with a knife while she was asleep for failing to give him his share of the profits from her hairdressing business which he helped to fund.

A mechanic, Kwaku Mpiani has been jailed for 15 years by a Kumasi High Court for causing the death of his girlfriend, Ama Achiaa.

Mr. Mpiani pleaded for mitigation after he was initially charged with the murder of his hairdresser girlfriend and was sentenced on his own plea for manslaughter.

Mr. Mpiani tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the stomach and neck but was saved and sent to the hospital.  He was arrested after recovery.

The presiding judge, Mr Justice Charles Adjei Wilson sentenced Mpiani after his counsel, Mr Konadu Oduro, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy.
